Japan Meets St. Louis: Sushi in the Central West End

Along with a wide selection of fresh seafood options, Maki, Teriyaki, and Nigiri, Chi offers a lovely choice of vegetarian/vegan rolls and Udon noodle soup. Try a St. Louis Roll (tuna, avocado and Japanese pickle) or a Central West End Roll (shrimp tempura, asparagus / salmon, eel sauce, mayo, crunch, scallions and roe) for a bit of local flair. It may be an easy choice to go there, but with an expansive menu ranging from lobster spring rolls and seared sesame-encrusted tuna to fried green tea ice cream, choosing what you want will be harder. The house specialty Drunken Fish Roll features shrimp tempura, Japanese mayo and asparagus, topped with tuna, eel sauce, roe, tempura crumbs and sprouts. For some All-American flavor, try the BLT Roll (crispy bacon, shredded lettuce and avocado, topped with grape tomatoes, sesame seeds, and garlic mayo). Lots of veggie options and gluten-free soy sauce is available upon request make this a great place for diverse groups.

Kampai Sushi Bar | 4949 W Pine Blvd

A diverse yet classic sushi bar menu, with tons of great lunch options, including Bento Boxes and Veggie and Roll Lovers Specials. Try the Sunset Roll (tuna with honey wasabi mayo), the protein packed Low-Carb Roll sans rice (with tuna, crab, pickled radish & avocado with thin sliced cucumber, balsamic, vinegar sauce), or the West Pine Roll (torched salmon atop a California roll).
